The Lieder Youth Theatre Company is in rehearsal for its major performance project of the year. The project is called Pocket Full of Knives and will be a youth-researched and created theatrical performance at the Lieder Theatre addressing issues of self-image, wellness and substance abuse among young people in rural areas.

Pocket Full of Knives is a collaboration with drama students from Yass and Crookwell High Schools, which has grown out of the 3rd Gathering of Regional youth keen to explore their interest in theatre and hosted by the Lieder Theatre in April this year as part of National Youth Week.

Pocket Full of Knives is also a development on from the Company's highly successful collaborative production of Four Little Girls, which involved drama groups from around the region in a combined performance in 2006 at the Lieder.

The project is exploring the model of groups working in isolation on the major part of their presentation and only meeting for the first time just before opening night to turn the play into a cohesive performance involving all the groups.

In the cast of Pocket Full of Knives over 25 young people will meet for the first time the day before opening to finalise their performance on the Lieder mainstage.

The Gala opening night hosted by Goulburn INTERACT -
Youth Rotary on Friday 4th July at 7.30pm.

Pocket Full of Knives will continue on Saturday 5th July at 2pm and 7.30pm and conclude on Sunday 6th July with an afternoon performance commencing at 2pm.
Tickets for this show can be booked by phoning the Lieder Theatre on 48215066 or by following the links on Lieder's web page www.liedertheatre.com

This project has received funding from Goulburn Community Drug Action Team, Goulburn Mulwaree Council and the Commonwealth Regional Arts Fund, which gives all Australians, wherever they live better access to opportunities to practice and experience the arts.

Pocket Full of Knives is a devised work created with regional high school students and contains strong language and contemporary themes that may be confronting for some patrons. The play is suitable for audiences over 12 years of age.
